I feel that microsoft is good at desktop software and they understand how to create competitive advantage in those products. Internet is relatively more price sensitive and expects more free products. Monetization techniques play pivotal role here. Google has mastered that art and microsoft is yet to innovate any new business model. If this is the case then Google definitely has an advantage because they are pioneers of many monetization techniques.

Microsoft should concentrate where the money is.

They’ve been doing tit-for-tat on everything EXCEPT with going neck to neck with Adsense (aka “the pay dirt”).

If baffles me that they can match Google on maps, free analytics, and so on, but they’ve been reluctant to take on the big doG with a REAL response to Adsense/Adwords.

MS saw Apple re-inventing the computer with a graphic interface, took the idea and run with it. Why can’t they do the same with online ads?

"Google ahead of Microsoft only in search" ? Depends how you ssegment it.... it's ahead of the game in web apps, but behind in usage. Net office has a long way to go to overtake desktop based MS-office
