The Forbes World Billionaires list was released yesterday and I am excited because we now have the first black South African Billionaire, Patrice Motsepe, on the list. He is on position 503 with a net wealth of $2.4 billion. As a person who used to stay in South Africa and really loves the Rainbow Nation, in spite of the crime wave, I would like to congratulate Mr Motsepe for a job well done. But I would like to ask the guys at Forbes to furnish us with information on Mr Motsepe’s wealth in the previous years.
A leap from nowhere to $2.4 billion seems to be too much for me. I am afraid Mr Motsepe might have already been a Billionaire all this time. Therefore, I would like to ask Forbes and anyone who produces these statistics to take a closer look at the other rich black South Africans. There could be more black billionaires down there!
I will always remember Mr Motsepe because of his passion for football. He owns Mamelodi Sundowns FC which is the most successful club in South Africa since the inception of the Premier Soccer League in 1996. They have won four league titles and a few cups, and are still the only club to have won three consecutive league titles. I used to enjoy watching Sundowns at Loftus Versfield in Pretoria last year when they won their most recent League Title. Although their form is indifferent this year, they are still a massive club.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackAs an avid football fan living in Pretoria I too am a Sundowns supporter. The teams form is not indifferent this year, they have just decided to give the other guys an opportunity. They will be back next year to collect all the silverware they might not be getting this year.

There has been this growth of rich people in South Africa in recent years ever since BEE was introduced. Actually BEE has created this huge black middle class and around 25,000 dollar millionaires. If am not mistaken, our billion dollar brother has stakes in Harmony Gold and others. Motsepe’s sister, Bridgette Radebe, is also considered to be the richest black woman south of the Limpopo.

@KwaZulu-Natal Hotels: I do not think that you would be content being a millionaire. Look around and come back to me if you can find any millionaire who is content and doing nothing in order to make more money.
