I’m very sad to read about this, profit and greed are not the root of all evil but certainly do not help us in coming together for the common good. these drugs can help but I feel that education is the key in helping to stop the spread of these diseases in the first place.

may i add a third possible health problem… immunity to to the drugs. ARV’s need to be taken on a strict schedule, when this is not adhered to the drugs become less effective. who knows what kachasu drinkers are taking in!
ARVs were ‘encouraged’ upon malawi all of a sudden from outside, (3 by 5 initiative i think?) which was great and many have benefited. but management systems are new and weak…
and of course the drugs are free so they are hand-outs and when people don’t pay for something they often do not value it.
after all whose money are they really wasting? not malawi’s (maybe global fund?!).
