I agree with Miley, using an escrow service should be a must when attempting this type of transaction. The level of potential risk is high, with little means for recourse.

Surely an escrow service would have to be involved. Unless the friend in question is quite a close one, doing these types of transactions can be quite dangerous as one of the sides is at one point going to lose their hard earned money. Apart from that there is legally no problem with such transactions.
